Jim Sturgill

Jim began his museum career his junior year of high school as a natural history interpreter for the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History as a member of a program known affectionately as the “Lab Rats”. Jim continued along this path as a historic interpreter for the Mackinac State Historic Parks for a total of 6 seasons and pursued his degree in interpretive services at Hocking College, where he volunteered in the Robbins Crossing living history village and portrayed Daniel Nelson, founder of the town of Nelsonville. Jim completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology at Grand Valley State University and was part of a team that excavated at the Father Marquette Mission Site in St. Ignace, MI through Michigan State University, Jim volunteered as both a first and third person interpreter at the Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site in outside of Charleston, IL while pursuing his Master of History with a focus on Historical Administration at Eastern Illinois University.

 

Upon completion of his Master’s, Jim served as the executive director of the Athens County Historical Society and Museum (now known as the Southeast Ohio History Center) in Athens, OH, and held the position of Manager of Education and External Relations for the Mahoning Valley Historical Society in Youngstown, OH. Jim transitioned into full time work in EMS in the winter of 2006 and has been in the field since. Jim has worked as an emergency medical technician (EMT), EMT-Specialist, and paramedic in Michigan while continuing to hold his EMS certification in Ohio and recently acquiring his EMS license as a paramedic in Nevada.
